Wanda Thompson Fulkerson, 83 years old, went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2020 in Lexington, Kentucky, with her family by her side.
Born September 19, 1937 in Cub Run, Kentucky, Wanda graduated from Cumberland College and Campbellsville College. At 19 years old she started her career in elementary education at Sonora School, teaching a full classroom of 42 first graders. Later, she taught in several school systems and was dearly loved by her students. She retired from the Anderson County School system in 1989. Wanda loved teaching students to read and see them advance through their formative years. She was proud to know that her former students went on to be engineers, lawyers, nurse, doctors and teachers, as well as prominent citizens in their community.
Wanda accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and depended on God from that point in her life up to her last breath. A woman of great faith, she witnessed to others while being hospitalized days before her death. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Lexington, KY.
Wanda married Gale Fulkerson at First Baptist Church of Sonora in 1960. They lived 60 beautiful years together and had two daughters, Susan (Darrell) Herald of Jackson, KY and Jennifer (Alan) Coffey of Russell Springs, KY. She was the loving grandmother of Alexandra Herald, Caroline Herald, Kline (Lindsay) Palmer, Lauren Palmer and Meleah Coffey.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Samuel (Sammie) and Ada (Webb) Thompson, and her beloved sisters Roberta Tyler and Marie Deusner.
Pallbearers include Kline Palmer, Darrell Herald, Alan Coffey, Chad Fulkerson, Lloyd Miller and Troy Todd. Adam Tyler will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Sonora, KY on Thursday, December 31, 2020. Visitation will take place at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life beginning at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Sonora Cemetery.
