W. Bruce Williams, age 84, of Myrtle Beach, SC died peacefully on February 14, 2024 surrounded by family at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC.
Bruce was born in Lynchburg, VA on March 18, 1939. He was a native of Raleigh, NC, the son of the late H. Page Williams and Isabel Jones Williams. He graduated from Needham B. Broughton high school in 1957 and upon graduation enlisted in the NC Army National Guard, subsequently serving 9 years before being discharged with the rank of SFC. In the fall of 1957, he enrolled at NC State University.
After graduating with a degree in Industrial Engineering he started his first job with a local Raleigh consulting firm designing and routing interstate highways. He went on to join Westinghouse Electric in Raleigh (later Westinghouse/ABB) where he served for 25 years before retiring in 1991.
Bruce was an avid sportsman enjoying many fishing and hunting trips with his father growing up, interests he later shared with his own sons. He loved playing golf and enjoyed an amateur career that spanned 70 years competing on over 360 different courses through the US and abroad.
Bruce is preceded in death by Carolyn Williams, his wife of 45 years, who died in 2006. Carolyn hailed from Carolina Beach, NC where the two married in June of 1961. He is also preceded in death by his son Bryan Prentice Williams of Carolina Beach, NC who died in 2016.
Bruce is survived by his partner and companion of 12 years Gail H. Moss, a sister Mary Page Slovak (Gerard), a brother Warren A. Williams (Kay), sons Herman Page Williams (Lori) and Matthew Cole Williams (Courtney), grandchildren Taylor Williams Bunn (Matthew) and Jacob Hudson Williams, along with three great grandchildren Walker, Sawyer and Whitley Bunn.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the SECU Hospice House of Smithfield, NC where Bruce and the family received loving and gracious care in his final days and to the Gail H. Moss endowment at Conway Medical Center in Conway, SC.
A celebration of life for Bruce will take place later in the spring in Myrtle Beach, SC with details to follow.
