Walter "Walt" D. Von Ehr, 84, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his home.
Walt was born in Culver, IN on March 8, 1936 to Joseph Von Ehr and Louise (Krull) Von Ehr. He is married to the love of his life, Carmeleta (Seeger) Von Ehr. They were married on October 8, 1989 in Culver, IN.
Walt is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louise and his sister, Edna Craft.
Walt is survived by his wife, Carmeleta; children, Dale (Shelley) Deisinger, James (Pam) Von Ehr, Rick (Karen) Knauss Jr., Ted (Deanna) Knauss Sr., Peggy (Rod) Dawson and Joyce Henselman; grandchildren, Jamie ( Matt) Mach, Amber (Jason) Colbert, Lukas Knauss, Sean (Clarissa) Briggs, Zackery Slusher, Hannah Deisinger, Jayse Knauss, Jacob Gaffney, Ted Knauss Jr., and Corbin Floyd;7 great grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Dehne.
Walt grew up on the farm raising cows and goats in Rochester, IN. He was also an insulator with Cook Nuclear Power Plant for 35 years retiring in 1993. Walt was a member of Cook Nuclear Plant Local 75, Elkhart Moose Lodge 599 and Rochester Moose Lodge 1107. He was a member of That Church on the Rise on C.R. 4 in Elkhart. In his spare time, Walt enjoyed watching Westerns. He was an avid Donald Trump Supporter until the end. Most of all, Walt was a loving husband and enjoyed spending time on the farm with his grandchildren.
Walt was a generous, hard worker who had a big heart even though he could occasionally be ornery. He will be greatly missed.
Walt will be cremated and there will be a private celebration of his life later. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart is assisting the family.
