Walter Troffkin passed away in early 2021 and is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Walter graduated from Brooklyn College and the State University of New York College of Medicine. He interned at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn and completed a residency in psychiatry at Cincinnati General Hospital and the Central Psychiatric Center. During the Vietnam War, Walter served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. He then graduated from the Institute of the Philadelphia Association for Psychoanalysis in Child and Adult Psychoanalysis and served on the faculty of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia as a supervisor in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis. After his retirement from private practice, Walter continued as a faculty member and supervisor at the Cincinnati Psychoanalytic Institute before entering full retirement.
Walter was dedicated to his chosen field of psychoanalysis and brought compassion, wisdom, and expertise to his roles as therapist, teacher, supervisor, and mentor. He had a special talent for understanding the children and adolescents who came to him for psychoanalytic treatment.
Walter loved his family and friends deeply, and they brought him his greatest joys. He has left all those he loved with fond memories of a life well lived.
