Walter Houston Suggs, age 79, sadly passed away on July 1, 2022, at his home after an extended illness. Born on June 10, 1943, in Calhoun, Georgia, Houston was the son of the late Julian and Thelma Boswell Suggs. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Suggs, sister-in-law Patsy Suggs and grandson Stephen Suggs. Houston was employed with Bartow County Parks and Recreation for 35 years. He was loved and respected by so many whose lives he touched through his years of service to the community and to Dizzy Dean Baseball as a National Board director. Houston loved Dizzy Dean Baseball and softball and became involved through his role as director at Bartow County Recreation. His love for kids and their growing up thru sports was unsurpassed. He served as National Treasurer for Dizzy Dean for many years and was instrumental in helping this program provide opportunities for the youth and this country. One of his last most favorite times was when he was asked to throw the first pitch out for opening day baseball and softball at Hamilton Crossing. His heart was always there, and he helped develop the growth of that park. His Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be held at the Houston Suggs Youth Facility, 35 Beavers Drive, Cartersville, GA on Sunday, July 17. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm and service at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to his church that he dearly loved. That church is the Cartersville Church of the Ascension.
