Walter A. Rotherforth, 88, a Bloomfield resident since 1997, passed away Saturday (January 16, 2021) at Bloomfield Healthcare Center. Born in New Britain, son of the late William Henry and Lillian (Freeman) Rotherforth, Walter was a graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1950, and later graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Botany from UConn. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Walter was employed as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service in New Britain and was a caregiver to his mother for many years. He was a master of baking apple pies, only second to grandma. He was also a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Britain.
Walter is survived by a nephew, Scott Rotherforth of Glastonbury; two nieces, Cynthia Aponte of Glastonbury and Robin Rotherforth of Rocky Hill; and a great nephew, Thomas Shew and his wife Elizabeth of Colchester and their children. Walter was predeceased by his brother William Rotherforth and Bill's wife Sylvia. The family would like to thank his friend Adrien Beatty, Attorney Renee Schwartz, the Bloomfield Health Care Center and Constellation Hospice for all their care and help.
Funeral Services will be held 9:00 AM Thursday (January 21, 2021) at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT 06051 followed by burial at 10 AM with military honors in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Church 90 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051 or to the Connecticut Humane Society 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
