Walter A "Terry" Reynolds, of Lexington, NC, passed away early Monday morning, March 29th at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. The son of the late Lorraine Tice Reynolds and W. Arnold Reynolds, Jr. of Yonkers, NY, he was born on August 26, 1935 in Mount Vernon, NY. Terry's happy childhood included spending summers on Lake Waccabuc and serving as a camp counselor at Camp Hillard in Scarsdale, NY. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, attended the Merchant Marine Academy, served in the US Army in Thule, Greenland as a member of the Signal Corp and used the GI Bill to attend and graduate from Duke University in 1960 with a BA in History.
Terry married Sandra LeShanna on September 2, 1961 and for 59 years enjoyed living together, working together and raising a wonderful family. After working for US Gypsum in Richmond and Charlottesville in 1963, they settled in Lexington where their three children were born. Terry accepted a position at Mid-State Tile Company where he worked for 12 years in various positions including finance, accounting and sales culminating in the position as Sales Manager. In 1976, the family moved to Charlotte where he acquired Meck Tile Distributors. Under his friendly business philosophy of "the customer is always right" coupled with his generous and sincere interest in supporting all employees, Meck Tile grew into Reynolds Distributing Company, Inc., successfully adding locations in Greensboro and Raleigh. In Charlotte, he was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, Rotary and the Lake Norman Yacht Club where he sustained his lifelong love of being on the water. Upon selling the business in 1996, the couple returned to Lexington where Terry found fulfillment playing golf, serving on the boards of Habitat for Humanity and Family Services, the vestry of Grace Episcopal Church and making four mission trips to Honduras sponsored by the Dioceses of NC. Terry also found great joy spending summers with friends and family on Crystal Mountain in Boone, NC. The happiness and security of his family was always his primary joy and motivation.
Terry is also predeceased by his brother Richard E. Reynolds and sister Marjory R. Rode. Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are his children and grandchildren. Lynn Reynolds Weller (Charlotte) and children Andrew Franklin McRee Weller, Lucille Bishop Weller; Walter A. Reynolds, IV (Raleigh); Mary Reynolds Harp and husband William Russell Harp (Davidson), and children Sarah Harris Harp, Henry Russell Harp and Mary LeShanna Harp.
