Walter D. Peretiatko, Sr., 92, of Lewes, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Beebe Medical Center.
Born on September 4, 1929 in Rawa Ruska, Austria, (now Ukraine), he was the son of the late William Peretiatko and Mary Zychaiti Peretiatko. He grew up in Europe during the German occupation of Ukraine. In the early 1940's he and his sister, Lydia, fled Ukraine just before the end of WWII.
After coming to this country through Ellis Island the family settled in Chester, PA. He served honorably in the US Army as a medic during the Korean Conflict. After his release from active duty he attended King's College and Goldey Beacom College, and then began a lifelong career in food service. After marrying Nancy Lee Robbins in 1956 they eventually made their home in Dover where they owned and operated Perry's Pancake House and Perry's Steak House for many years. After retirement they moved to Lewes.
Mr. Peretiatko was a member of Capitol Baptist Church in Dover, DE; for over 50 years. He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, and enjoyed listening to gospel music and keeping up with all his grandchildren.
He is survived by three daughters; Sheryl Aaron (Ray) of Cambridge MD; Anna Parker (Wyatt) of Greenville, S.C.; Ruth Beltran (Jose) of New Castle, DE. four sons; Walter Peretiatko, Jr. (Jodi) of Schererville, IN; David Peretiatko of Ocala, FL; John Peretiatko (Stacy) of Pacific Palisades, CA; Steven Peretiatko (Laura) of Camden Wyoming, DE. 13 Grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one on the way; a special niece, Kathy Dantone (Vince) of Bowie, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews. He had a special devoted caregiver, Karen Zemko, of whom he was very fond. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, sister and a grandson.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, DE. On Wednesday July 13, 2022 at 11:00AM
