Walter Ling Ellis was born April 7, 1957 in Sutter General Hospital, Sacramento, California. He passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2021.
Walter lived with his family in Sacramento until 1963, when he and his family left for Europe. The first leg of the trip was a flight from San Francisco to New York City to board the S.S. America, bound for Europe. He attended school in Frankfurt, Germany, and also traveled to France, Spain, Holland, Italy and Belgium. In 1965 the Ellisundefineds returned to the United States and lived in Lafayette, California, where he attended local public schools.
In 1972 the Ellisundefineds moved to Monroe, Washington. Walter, after graduating from Monroe High School, set up residence in Monroe, married Sandra Mattson in 1980 and had three children. He lived in Monroe until his unexpected death on July 18.
Walter spent most of his adult life working at sea as a welder and second engineer on the Alaska Ocean processing ship. The Alaska Ocean was featured on a History Channel TV series, Modern Marvels (Season 14, Episode 7), where Walter and his shipmates can be seen.
Walter loved making metal artwork for his family and friends and was quite talented in designing individual pieces of metal arts using cast-off pieces of metal. He also loved spending time camping on family-owned property on the Skykomish River. Walter enjoyed music, the outdoors, Hawaii, his family and his little hot tamale, Sandy. He was in the process of building a log cabin on his High Rock property.
Walter leaves behind his loving wife, Sandra Ellis; daughter, Heather Ellis; sons, Richard and Russell Ellis; grandchildren, Racquell and Brooklyn; mother-in-law, Phyllis Tripple; brother-in-law, Kenny Mattson; nephew, JR Mattson; sister-in-law, Trinda Gonzales and her husband Rudy along with their daughter Linnea Walker and sister-in-law Linda Mattson Hagel with her son Aaron Hagel and her late daughter Brandi Hagel.
Walter also leaves behind his parents, Raymond and Lucille Ellis; his brother, Guerdon Ellis and Tammy, his wife; his nephew, Robert Ellis; his sister, Genevieve Trombley and husband Tim and niece Emma Trombley.
Walter is preceded in death by his older brother, David Ellis, who died in an auto accident in 2001.
A celebration of Walterundefineds life will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at his parentsundefined residence (12116 Bollenbaugh Hill Rd., Monroe) on August 28, 2021. If you knew Walter, please drop by to share memories and photos.
