Walter S. Gookstetter July 3rd 1932- March 15th 2021. 88yrs old, Walter was born in Spokane Washington to William and Mildred Gookstetter. He started school in the county outside of Spokane and had to walk to school. The family moved to Seattle during World War II. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1951 and he started working at Safeway warehouse. He then joined the Navy Air force and after his tour he spent 10 years in the reserve, they flew to many countries during their 2-week training each year.
He married Delores Wood on September 8th, 1962, they were married for 58 years. He worked at Safeway Warehouse for 41 years before retiring in 1994. He loved spending vacations at his grandparent's ranch near Newport Washington. He enjoyed cutting wood with his grandfather, and spent many years cutting wood at home. Walter was active at church as a trustee and head usher, he spent many years in the upkeep of the church property. Walter is survived by his wife Delores, his siblings Daryl, Gabe, and Della, son Duane and daughter Cynthia, granddaughters Teaya and Hannah, grandsons Luke and Trent.
We are thankful for the great care he received at Mukilteo Group Family Home for this last year. He spent his final days at Providence Hospital, Hospice had a special tribute for Walter for being a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
Services will be at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Maltby Washington on March 27th at 11 a.m. Due to Covid-19 the church is only allowing 50 people to come to the service.
