It is with great sadness that the Dinkins family announces the death of Walt Dinkins. He passed in the early morning of June 5th at Emory University Hospital, surrounded by his wife, Catherine, son John, daughter-in-law Ginny, grandson Jesse, son, Chad Dinkins, his close friend Jodi Farrell, and his brother and sister in law Bobby and Tina Mewbourn. Walter "Walt" Daniel Dinkins, 76, of Stockbridge, GA was born in Orlando Florida on February 18, 1945 and is predeceased by his parents, Mary Daniel Dinkins and Walter Fred Dinkins; and his brothers, Horace Dinkins, Larry Dinkins, and Lynn Dinkins. Walt was a proud graduate of Griffin High School, Class of 1965. He was a basketball star for the Eagles. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, and later was employed by J.C. Penney Catalog Distribution Center where he also retired after 36 years. Walt was a gentle and loving man who loved and cherished his family and friends as well as his animals. Walt was a friend to everyone. He was an avid Tennessee Vols football fan, and his hobbies included softball, bowling, golf, camping and fishing with his JCPenny family and friends. He looked forward and enjoyed his annual trips to Coopers Creek in North GA. In later years, he took his children, nephews and friends to Coopers Creek to continue the tradition. In 1992 Walt rededicated his life to the Lord at First Baptist Church Atlanta, Georgia. Pastor Charles Stanley. Mr. Dinkins is survived by his wife of 30 years, Catherine Dinkins; children, Chad Dinkins, and John "Nick" Dinkins; grandchildren, Taylor Dinkins, Daniel Dinkins, Jesse Dinkins, Emily Laster; great grandchild, Adam Laster; sister, Wanda Busby; mother-in-law, Betty C. Mewbourn; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Tina Mewbourn and special friend Jodi Farrell, several nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, "Dillon Dinkins". Visitation will be on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel.
