Walter Paul Baltic, 100, a longtime resident of Norton, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Rittman Apostolic Christian Village.
Walter was born on March 21, 1921, at home to Peter & Nettie (Oberdove) Balugdzich-Baltic on Homewood Ave in Coventry Twp.
His family moved to a farm on Hametown Rd in Norton in 1943, where he milked cows and farmed the land. Walter went to school in Barberton. At 16 years of age, Walter spent 2 years and 9 months at the Sanitorium in Springfield Twp after a chipped bone in his left hip became infected. Walter purchased his family farm in 1946. He also worked for the City of Norton, drove bus for Norton City Schools and retired from their maintenance department at the age of 72. Over the years Walter lined many football and soccer fields.
Walter enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Canada. He hosted family and friends at the farm for a fish fry. He loved playing ball with the nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed eating out and visiting with many friends. On February 14, 2020, he was baptized. March 21, 2021, Uncle Walt celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends and was so excited to receive a proclamation from the Mayor of Norton.
He was preceded in death by mother, Nettie, father, Peter, and stepmother, Mildred Plavsity; brothers, Mitchel (Violet), Daniel (Nancy), Paul (Nellie), Edward (Marion); half-brothers, Stanley, and Mickey; sisters, Olga (John) Soloninka and Violet Baltic; half-nephew Peter, and nieces Kay and Nancy; half-niece, Vicki. He is survived by nieces and nephews, Dan (Betty) Baltic, Pete (Karen) Baltic, Nettie Baltic, Mary (Fred) Gasser, Paulette (Bill) Sage, Tony (Helen Day) Baltic, Chuck Baltic, Annette Houk, Johnny (Sue) Soloninka, Jim (Patty), and many great (and great-great and 1 great-great-great niece) nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W Sunset Dr, Rittman or from 9:30 to 10:15 AM on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the church.
Services will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 10:30 AM, at the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church, 10699 Steiner Rd, Rittman, OH 44270 with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be at the Apostolic Cemetery.
