Vivian Batal Sawaya formerly of Andover Massachusetts and North Port Florida died Friday evening December 17 at the age of 92.
Born July 19, 1929 to the parents of Shahadi Charlie (The Iceman) Batal and Nellie Batal.
She lived in Lawrence Ma for her first twenty years where she graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947. She also attended the McIntosh Business School.
After graduation she travelled for an extended stay to Albuquerque New Mexico and New York City visiting relatives that she stayed close with for life. This trip helped define who she was.
Always impeccably dressed her appearance was important to her. Her hospitality and parties were legendary.
She loved candy and sweets especially caramel hiding candy bars all around the house and the amount of syrup and sugar in her recipes were always doubled.
She was a die-hard liberal who enjoyed politics and keeping up with current events. She was a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, who in the 1960s marched in many peace rallies and was a strong supporter of human rights.
She was an avid walker often seen walking all over North Port Florida or from their beautiful contemporary home to Andover center.
Vivian was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Mitchell F. Sawaya.
The couple lived in Andover Ma for over 50 years where she worked at Raytheon Company for 38 years.
Vivian and Mitch raised two sons, Mitchell J. Sawaya of Manchester NH owner of
Strange Brew Tavern in Manchester NH, and Ken Sawaya formerly of Andover and who now resides in North Port Florida with his wife of 35 years Grace Elmi Sawaya. All three are graduates of Andover High School.
Vivian has three grandchildren, Gina Sawaya who resides with her fianc? Ryan White in Goleta Ca, Nick Sawaya who resides with the love of his life Alaina (Rosie) Robie in Boston Ma, and Mitchell (Mack) Sawaya of Manchester NH. Vivian (Sitto) loved her grandchildren very much and was an excellent caretaker to both Gina and Nick teaching the children how to cook and clean.
Vivian has two brother's and a sister and many close-knit friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
