Virl Otis LaMunyon peacefully passed to his eternal home on December 4, 2020. There will be a graveside funeral service held at the Laverne Memorial Cemetery (Oklahoma) on Friday, December 11th at 2pm.
Virl was born on August 17, 1934 to Dennis and Denzel (Hayes) LaMunyon just outside of Laverne, Oklahoma, near the family home place. Virl attended Laverne High School and graduated from Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State) in 1956. He then served in the US Air Force.
In July 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Ann Carlisle. Virl and Patsy lived in Perryton, Texas briefly after his military service, and then returned home to Laverne to live on the Carlisle ranch. He managed the ranch's cow-calf operation for his in-laws. The ranch is where Virl and Patsy raised their four beautiful children. Virl will be remembered by his family as a loving man, whose two-step on the dance floor was almost as legendary as his homemade ice cream.
Virl's true love was the cattle industry. During the 1980s, Virl became owner of Perryton Feeders, Inc. feedlot and Union County Feedlot in Clayton, New Mexico. Virl also was involved with Western Beef and Consolidated Beef Producers.
Virl served on the Laverne School Board, the OSU Foundation Board, the OSU College of Agriculture Advisory Board, and The Perryton Club Board. He was also a member of the Oklahoma and National Cattlemen's Associations and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
Virl is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, his brother, Gail LaMunyon, his sister, Treva LaMunyon, and her life-long friend, Kay Wilson. Also two sons, Richard LaMunyon and Bret LaMunyon. He is survived by his daughter, Richelle Edmonston, and husband, Brian, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, one son, John LaMunyon, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, daughter-in-law, Kim LaMunyon, of Perryton, sister-in-law, Beverly LaMunyon, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
