Virginia was born March 4, 1934 in Northampton, Massachusetts to Harry E. Childs and Kathleen (Cox) Childs. She graduated from St. Michael's High School and attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Virginia and Richard D. Putnam married on September 11, 1954. After living in several states, the family settled in Granville, Ohio in 1972. Following 22 years of exceptional service, Virginia retired from the Admissions office at Denison University in 1994. Virginia was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Granville and later St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church in Dublin as well as a member of Chapter AB of the PEO Sisterhood and the Granville Senior Fellowship. Known to all as Ginny, Virginia is survived by her beloved husband of almost 67 years, Richard Putnam. Also surviving are four children: Kathleen (Dean) Grinch, Richard (Debra) Putnam, Carol (Mark) Truini, and Michael (Theresa) Putnam. She leaves seven grandchildren: Stuart and Virginia Grinch, Michael (Abigail) Putnam, Ryan (Tovah) Truini, Chad (Jackie) Truini, Ashley (Matt) Hofacre, and Rachel Putnam. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Livia Truini, Theodore Putnam, and Rory Truini as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry E. Childs, Jr. and her brother-in-law, Robert E. Putnam. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN. Burial will be in the Putnam family plot in Houlton, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Granville Fellowship.
