Virginia L. Penwell was born July 16,1932 to Lydia Lamb and Charles Hite in Charles Town, WV and died peacefully in her home in Hagerstown, MD on July 15, 2021. Virginia was best known for her incredible cooking. She worked as a cook for "The Virginian" in Vienna, VA for almost 40 years until she retired and moved back to West Virginia in 2004. Virginia loved painting figurines and was an avid reader of mystery/crime novels. A devout Christian, she found peace and friendship at her church. She never met a dog that did not fall in love with her; she is sorely missed by her pets at home, Tucker and Halo. Virginia was also known for her resilience, storytelling, and her love for her family. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Penwell, and her children; Joyce Ann Penwell, Donna Morris, and Sharyn Hockensmith. She is survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Kelly Penwell and partner, Christopher Horan, Joey and Elizabeth Groves, Richie and Brande Hockensmith and their children, Trey, Grayson, and Blair. A memorial service will be held on August 15, 2021 at 2pm at Bedington United Methodist Church, 580 Bedington Road, Martinsburg, WV. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hospice of Washington County in Maryland. They were an incredible help to the family in the last days of Virginia's life.
