CLARKS HILL, SC - Virginia Padgett, 92, passed away at home on July 26th, surrounded by love.
Virginia was born in Greenville SC and moved to Aiken in the early 1950's. She worked for 25 years for Dupont at Savannah River Site and retired in 1992.
She lived in Aiken until 2020, when she moved to her daughter's in Clarks Hill SC. Virginia loved the beach and lake and spent many hours enjoying the great outdoors. She was an avid traveler, visiting Hawaii and seeing the world including London, England and Paris, France with her daughter Cindy and family friend, the late Debbie Harrell. She is the daughter of the late Charlie and Beulah Johnson. She was married for 25 years to the late Douglas Rudolph McCarthy and 25 years to the late James Bernard Padgett. She is survived by 4 children, Allyson McCarthy (April), Cindy Johnston (Russ), Susan Dunbar (Rick), and Mike McCarthy (Debbie), grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She had a wonderful life and shared many cherished memories with lifelong friends Elsie Smith, Claire Creech, the late Betty Waters and the late Edna Deweese. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and fur babies.
The family would like to thank the Kindred Hospice team for there kindness and support during this time. We would also like to sincerely thanks and send love to Mom's nurse and friend, Laura Whisnant.
Visitation and service will be at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Friday July 29th at Noon, with visitation 1 hour before the service. Burial will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Due to an increase in Covid-19 cases and out of respect for everyone, the Family requests that masks be worn, and everyone practices social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of McCormick County.
