Virginia Osteen Mitchell, 94, of Palatka, FL (lovingly called "Jenny" by family and friends), departed this life on Monday, December 27, 2021 to go home to be with her Lord and family.
Jenny was born in Hollister, FL where she grew up. She was part of a pioneer family of Putnam County, FL (the Osteen's). When she was 32, she lost her first husband, Bruce Squires, in a car accident and was left with three children to raise. She went to nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Along with her husband, Wiley "Hawk" Mitchell, she owned and operated the Silver Lake Grocery in the 1960s. She and her husband moved to Milton, FL where she worked as a nurse for 35 years. After retirement, she enjoyed going on mission trips and went on several, including 13 trips to Haiti where she helped to build an orphanage, and trips to China and Africa.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husbands, Bruce Squires and Wiley "Hawk" Mitchell; her siblings, Edith Nicholson, Myrtie Osteen, Elma "Totie" Mills, Erma Wilkinson, Eva Mae Chesser, and Edward "Fessor" Osteen; and a grandson, Chip Cooper.
She leaves behind five children, Linda Driggers (Jerry), Judy Cooper, Sharon Squires, Gary Mitchell (Krista), and David Mitchell (Joyce); eight grandchildren, Harry Litzell (Robin), Chad Cooper (Beth), Clay Cooper (Juanita), Jene Thompson (Jeff), James Anderson (Jennifer), Sarah Olsen, Kade Mitchell, Kole Mitchell, and Jesse Mitchell; nine great grandchildren, Katie Miles (Wyatt), Sara Litzell (Maddie Marlow), Harrison Litzell (Ashley), Zac Cooper, Malarie Cooper, Blakely Cooper, Cameron Thomson, Matthew Thompson, Mykaela Anderson, and Isaac Olson; and two great great grandchildren, Matilda Litzell and Eloise Litzell.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka, FL with Rev. Charles Litzell and Dr. L.D. Osteen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Serenity Gardens in Milton, FL.
