Virginia Lee (Yager) Lawrence (94) died January 27, 2021 in Lincoln, NE. She was born November 14, 1926 in Terre Haute, IN, to Sylvan and Lucille Yager. Virginia attended Indiana State University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Sorority. Virginia married Paul Richard Lawrence in 1946. They resided in Decatur, IL prior to moving to Pittsburg, KS in 1966. She graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1971 and was selected for Phi Upsilon Omega Honorary. Virginia worked for several years in the PPS reading program at Roosevelt Junior High. She was a homemaker who loved camping, quilting and traveling. She was an excellent cook; her potato rolls had an honored place at every family gathering and will be greatly missed. She was also a skilled seamstress and her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and quilts are family heirlooms. But Virginia was happiest when her hands were in the dirt, planting and pruning her flowers with her little yorkie beside her. Her yard was always bright with blooms from her green thumb.
She was active in the community, serving as a volunteer at the hospital, Wesley House and PSU student enrollment. She was a member of the Garden Club, Daughters of the Nile, PEO, First United Methodist Church, Ruth Circle, Crusaders Class and a PSU Alumni Lifetime member.
Virginia's survivors include three daughters, Linda (Mark) Bowen of Colorado Springs, CO, Susan (John) Dollarhide of Overland Park, KS and Janice Lawrence (Gregg Wright) of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Richard Lawrence and her sister Lois Hike.
