Virginia Vera Hastings joined the Holy Spirit on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at home with her family by her side. Virginia was born on May 5, 1924 in Avella, PA. The daughter of the late Onofrei and Olga Marunuk Samtzevich, she was raised in Gilman, CT, whilst enjoying the rural life. Virginia graduated from the Norwich Free Academy, then moved to Hartford and into a position in Engineering at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. There she met the love of her life, William Hastings, whom she married in 1956. Returning from additional work in aerospace in California, Ginny and Bill settled in Meriden and raised a family. She later found a career with the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services, from which she retired after 20 years of service. Ginny loved to travel, garden, power-walk and participate in aerobic dance. She also loved making and providing wreaths during the holidays. Ginny and Bill loved to summer in Cape Cod and Maine, and spend winters in Florida as snowbirds. She is survived by her husband William, son Jeffrey Hastings and his wife Linda of Wallingford, grandsons; Evan Hastings of Wallingford, and Jonathon Hastings of Pittsburgh, PA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Kryda, brother John Samtzevich, and daughter Lynn Lombardo.
