Virginia M. Gaylord of Falmouth, MA passed away quietly in her sleep on June 4, 2021, at the age of 101. She was born in Waterbury, CT on May 2, 1920, to the late Reuben S. and Beatrice E. (Robertson) Buckley.
She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Arthur Smith Gaylord of originally of Northampton. She leaves two sons Arthur Steven along with his wife Kathleen and Bruce Edward; two grandsons; David with his wife Mary and daughters Emma and Alara and Andrew with his wife Emily and daughter Rosemary.
Virginia arrived in Northampton to attend the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with a Registered Nursing degree in 1942. During World War II, she followed her husband around the country as he was stationed at various Army Air Corps bases. They returned to Northampton and built a house in Leeds. She worked at the hospital, Smith College Infirmary and for several local doctors. She later lived in Medway and Harvard MA, before returning to live in Southampton and Easthampton. After her husband died, she moved to Falmouth to be near her son Arthur.
Virginia greatly enjoyed her family and many friends. She was an avid reader, learned landscape painting and loved animals of all kinds, especially cats. She lived a long and happy life but will be sadly missed by her family.
Burial will be on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 12:15 PM in Spring Grove Cemetery, 320 N. Maple St., Florence. A calling hour will precede the committal at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd., Northampton on Friday from 11AM - 12PM. Face mask are required
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to People for Cats in Falmouth, MA.
