Virginia Sue Carter Matthews, 76, Palestine, passed away on September 17, 2020 in Tyler after a brief illness. She was born August 9, 1944 in Ft. Worth, TX to the late Woodrow Wilson Carter and Martha Elizabeth Jernigan Carter. She was raised in Overton and had lived in Crockett and Marshall before settling in Palestine 46 years ago. She retired after 28 years with the Texas Department of Human Services, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Palestine.
She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Carson Olvera of Palestine; three children, Michael Matthews and wife, Renee, Kathleen Ashworth and husband, Fred and Josephine Dickerson and husband, Ross; six grandchildren, Tyler Dickerson, Benjamin Dickerson, Beth Dickerson, Joseph Dickerson, Timothy Matthews and Annalyn Matthews; two great-grandchildren, Presley Jade Dickerson and Addison Von Brown; and cousins, Carter and John Stewart and Glenn Kinney.
