Ginny was a sweet and loving lady who relished in the joy of her long life. Ginny was born February 21, 1930 in Hackensack, NJ and passed away peacefully at home in Meridian, ID on October 7, 2024. She was raised in New Milford, NJ and attended Dumont High School and then nursing school at Clara Mass Hospital in Newark, NJ, obtaining an RN degree. During nursing school, she met Art Belcher, who she married in 1952. Art was an Army officer and shortly after their marriage they moved to the Seattle, WA area where he deployed to the Korean War. Ginny stayed in the Seattle area and worked as a nurse. After Korea, they relocated to Missoula, MT where Art completed his studies in Forestry and they started a family. Art's career took them to various towns in Montana and Wyoming, Washington DC and finally to Boise 1978 where they made Meridian their home. Ginny worked as a nurse after their two children were school age. Her nursing career included large hospitals in Seattle and Washington DC to small rural hospitals and clinics in Wyoming.
Ginny was never one to sit still. Between being a mother and working as a nurse, she was busy at home canning fruits and vegetables; baking bread, pies, cookies, desserts; for Christmas there were at least eight different kinds Christmas cookies and a couple types of fruit cakes. Ginny was an artist - although she wouldn't admit it - creating many, many works though oil painting, quilting, knitting, sewing, ceramics, and pottery. Ginny was always involved with the Methodist church and loved singing in the choir. Her love of music particularly included Jazz. She would drag Art to many jazz shows and loved listening to Gene Harris in the Boise area. She and Art enjoyed traveling the US, visiting all 50 states. Throughout her life, Ginny made countless lasting and cherished friendships along the way.
Ginny was preceded in death by Art in 2021. She is survived by her daughter Janice of Jacksonville, FL and granddaughter Courtney; son Craig and wife Bonnie of Boise; and grandsons Ben of San Diego, CA and Geoff and wife Ayshea of Portland, OR; and her brother Jules and wife Carol of Lake Oswego, OR. After the passing of Art, Ginny was having a hard time living alone. The family was blessed that in 2022, granddaughter Courtney left her home in Jacksonville, FL and moved in with Ginny. Through these last years, she went from being a companion to Ginny's full-time caregiver. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Idaho Food Bank.
