Viola D. Remington, 91, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Born on January 31, 1933, at home near Overbrook, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruth Fishburn Ingle. Viola graduated from Overbrook Rural High School and Stormont Vail School of Nursing, where she was recognized as the "Best Bedside Nurse" by the Nursing School Auxiliary.
Viola's career in nursing included two years at Wuesthoff Memorial Hospital in Rockledge, Florida, 19 years at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, and 13 years in the offices of Drs. Joss, McElroy, Hamilton, and Stuart, retiring in 1993. She was an active member of the Topeka Church of the Brethren, serving on various committees, teaching Sunday School, and assisting with many dinners. Viola also enjoyed quilting, sewing, needlework, cooking for her family and friends, and entering area contests for canning and pies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Skaggs and Helen Bloom; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Dudich.
On October 9, 1953, Viola married Robert D. Remington in Topeka. He survives at their home. She is also survived by two daughters, Sarah (Marc) Harris of Aurora, IL, and Audrey (Phil) Hamilton of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends during the visitation from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Penwell Gable Midtown Chapel. Burial will follow at Overbrook Cemetery.

Viola's last act on this earth was to give life to another through organ donation.
