Victoria Janette Richards Taylor passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024 at the age of 90. She will be remembered as a strong and capable wife and mother dedicated to her family and her faith.
Victoria was born April 12, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lynn Stephen Richards and Lucille Covey Richards. Much of her childhood was spent at Mt. Aire in Parley's Canyon, Utah and at Hebgen Lake in Montana, where some of her most cherished memories were made and her love of nature instilled.
Victoria attended East High School in Salt Lake, then went on to a year at the University of Utah where she was a Chi Omega. However, she did not love the exclusivity of sorority life and transferred to Brigham Young University where she felt everything was better. At BYU, she was part of the prestigious Acapella Choir and during her senior year she served as student body secretary. She graduated with a BS in elementary education and a minor in music.
It was at BYU where she met her life-long love and traveling companion Stanley Armond Taylor. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1957. Together they raised a family of five children. Victoria is remembered as a force to be reckoned with. If there was something that needed to be done, she could it. This included organizing and directing elaborate plays and roadshows, serving exquisite dinners to visiting dignitaries in her home--including the great grandson of William Wordsworth, and driving by herself across the entire United States with her children in a less-than reliable old Volkswagen van.
Vickie loved to travel and had a great appreciation and knowledge of art, architecture, and music. She sang for several years in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and then for many years in the Ralph Woodward Chorale. She and Stan were the directors of the BYU London Study Abroad program three times where she taught the humanities class, and they were the cultural consultants for many other BYU traveling groups, including the BYU ballroom dance team.
Victoria has said that her greatest desire was to be a strong, kind wife and mother and a true daughter of God. Over her lifetime she fulfilled that goal with her dedication to Jesus Christ and to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has touched the lives of many with her generous acts of charity. She served with Stan as Mission Presidents of the Idaho Boise Mission from 1998 to 2001. Her love of the Savior was her constant message to the world and her faith was steadfast and immovable.
Victoria is survived by her children Paul (Mary) Taylor, David Taylor, Julienne (David) Daines, and John Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband and her daughter Lynnanne Taylor Wilson.
