Victoria Taras, 95, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018 at her home.
Vickie was born August 9, 1923 to Joseph and Catherine (Kopylczak) Taras in Weaver PA and had been an Akron resident most of her life. She was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1980. She was a faithful member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, Secretary of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, a member of the League of Ukrainian Catholics, Blue Army (Parma Chapter), the church choir and delivered Mobile Meals.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law William and Anne Taras and sisters and brother-in-law Pauline and Thomas Smoley and Theresa Taras and nephew-in-law Joseph Selle. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Katherine Taras, Patricia and Colonel Larry Strube, Ret. USAF, and their children, Lauren, John and Stephen; Thomas and Helen Taras and their children, Todd, Joe and Theresa; Donna and Joe Crookston and their children, Patrick, Elizabeth, Monica, Bernadette and Anne Marie; Nicholas and Dr. Catherine Taras and their son, Alex; and Mary Ellen Selle and her children, William, Christopher, Nicholas and Thomas; 11 great great nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends Friday 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel where a Parastas Service will be held at 7 pm. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:30am at the funeral home and continue with Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1866 Brown St, Akron, OH 44301 Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to Holy Ghost Church.
