Victoria Ann Railing, age 68, of Morgantown, WV passed away peacefully after a reoccurrence of cancer Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born April 29, 1954, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of Mary Virginia Calandrelle-Railing and the late Jury E. Railing.
She graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1972. After high school she worked as a private secretary for Wright Gardner Insurance and at various positions at Xerox. In 1982, she moved to Morgantown, WV and began her career at West Virginia University. She was an administrative assistant in the College of Creative Arts for four years before obtaining the position of Office Manager in the Department of Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Counseling Psychology. Vicki was the pillar of this department for 34 years, unwaveringly dedicated to supporting faculty, staff and students. She was a most integral part the doctoral students completing their PhD's. Vicki retired in the Spring of 2020.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brothers, Ronald Railing and wife, Diana, and James Railing and wife, Diane of Hagerstown, MD, and Bradley Railing and wife, Melanie of Northborough, MA, her nieces, Courtney Railing Durgin and husband, Jonathan, Worcester, MA and Kendall Railing of Clinton, MA, Carly Railing of Virginia Beach, VA, Jasmine Johnson of Hagerstown, MD, and nephews Douglas "JR" Railing and Dexton Railing of Hagerstown, MD. She adored and cherished her great nieces Ti'ana Bowman, Ayri'Anna Bowman, Breana
Bowman and Ivyanna Bowman, and her great nephew, Maddox Railing, all of Hagerstown, MD. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends as well as a wonderful group of friends and colleagues in Morgantown, WV.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Douglas E. Railing and Robert S. Railing, both of Hagerstown, MD.
Vicki was a most kind and generous soul who always put the needs of others before her own. She loved her family wholeheartedly, especially her mother, and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, some of things she most loved were the beaches of Ocean City, MD, authentic Italian meatballs, late night card games, her annual trips to NYC to watch Broadway shows, white daisies, and enjoying her mother's famous fudge.
The family is eternally grateful to her friend, Heidi O'Toole of Morgantown, WV, who was by her side to support and care for her in the last weeks of her life. Vicki had several other long-term close friendships in Morgantown who loved her dearly and were so very grateful to be a part of her life; in particular, Ed, Jim, Bob, Jeff, Cathy, Donna, Kelly, Candy, Wilma, Lana, Monica and Michelle.
A celebration of her life will be held from 2PM-4PM, Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD, where a memorial service will be held at 2:30pm with Deacon Paul Nicolas officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family requests the omission of flowers.
