Victoria A. Messner , 72 Jun 18, 1946 - Apr 13, 2021 Victoria "Vickie" A. Messner passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Doey's House after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. She was the wife of 50 years to George E. Messner of Boonsboro.
Born on June 18, 1946 at Washington County Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Gene W. and Doris J. Crowl Smith. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sisters, Patricia E. Webber and Jean C. Bridges (Gary) and several nieces and nephews.
Vickie graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1966, Hagerstown Junior College in 1968 and Shepherd College (now) University in 1970. She began her teaching career in 1970 with the Washington County Board of Education at Keedysville Elementary and the next 29 years at Pleasant Valley Elementary before retiring in 2000. Vickie was a longtime member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boonsboro.
During her retirement years, she volunteered many hours and years as an officer of the Boonsboro Free Library and Reading Room, Boonsboro Historical Society, National Road Heritage Foundation and the Boonsboro Economic Development Commission. In 2018, the Washington County Board of Commissioners awarded her a Certificate of Recognition for her dedicated volunteer service for over two decades with the Town of Boonsboro.
She also enjoyed her creative artistic passions such as interior decorating and flower garden designs. She was also a Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan and season ticket holder.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Boonsboro Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer will officiate. A celebration of her life will be held in June.
