Floyd, Rome, NY
Vicky L. Slaga 61, of Floyd passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, January 12, 2020.
She was born on September 16, 1958 in Rome, NY a daughter of Charles H. Johnson and Jane C. Thomas Johnson Messenger. She was a graduate of Holland Patent Central School and the Ellis Hospital School of Nursing and the Schenectady Community College.
Vicky was an L.P.N. and was employed as an office nurse for several doctors in the Rome and Utica area. Vicky was of the Methodist Faith.
She is survived by her three children, a daughter Jaime Winfield and her husband Chris of Canastota, daughter, Julie Slaga of Clinton, and a son Joshua Slaga and his wife Devin of Rome. She leaves her grandchildren Jordan and Coleton Winfield of Canastota. She also leaves a sister Rebecca Stevens and her husband Mark of Branchville, SC and a brother Kenneth Johnson and Sherrie Skinner, a nephew Jake Johnson of Marcy and a niece Katlyn Johnson, also several cousins and many friends, and her beloved puppy "Griffin". She was predeceased by her grandparents, Kenneth R. and Sarah K. Thomas, her father Charles H. Johnson, her stepfather, Steven E. Messenger and her mother Jane C. Thomas Johnson Messenger.
The family would like to sincerely thank her neighbors Rocco and Mary Gerace for their many acts of kindness over the years. Also a special thank you to Hospice & Palliative Care and the doctors and nurses of the Rome Medical Group for all of your care complemented by true compassion.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. in Whitesboro. A service will follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Cindy Makarchuk officiating.
Because of Vicky's love for animals of all kinds especially dogs, please consider a donation to the ASPCA or a local Animal shelter in Vicky's name, or Hospice & Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
