Vernon Henry Morris, age 94, of Rome passed away Friday April 16, 2021 at a local hospital.
Vernon was born on May 6, 1926 in Gordon County, to the late Frank "Shorty" Morris and Ruby Martin Morris. Mr. Morris was a Veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in World War II. Vernon returned from Japan in 1946 and married his lifelong sweetheart Mary Kate Johnson. Vernon worked at several textile mills in Georgia and retired in 1988 from Klopman Mills in Shannon, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Kate Johnson Morris and two sons: Perry Morris and Tommie Morris; grandchild: Matthew Little, Amanda Morris; brothers: Andrew Morris and Charles Morris; sisters: Viola Mann, Jeanell Brannen, Katheryn Gault, and Nettie Choate.
Survivors include children: Doyle Morris (Syble) , John Morris, and Sharon Morris Little (William) ; grandchildren: Ginger Parks, Dana Bostick, Stephen Morris, Jason Morris, Rachel Butler, Nathan Morris, Ben Morris, Joseph Little ; 7 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; brothers: Arthur Morris, Harold Morris, Roy Morris, and Thurmon Morris.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday April 29, 2021 at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Stephen Morris delivering eulogy. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Thursday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome GA. 30165.
