Vernon Roosevelt Farris , 89 Nov 15, 1930 - Nov 3, 2020 Vernon Roosevelt Farris, 90, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Cumberland Healthcare Center.
Born November 15, 1930, in Orleans Crossroads, WV, he was the son of the late Floyd R. Farris and Mildred E. (Shafer) Farris Offord. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by infant daughter, Tina Marie Farris; granddaughter, Christina Dawn Farris; brothers, Kenneth Farris, and Daniel "Sonny" Farris; sister, Hazel Neibert; and special K-9 friend, Sadie.
He enlisted in the Army November 2, 1948, in Martinsburg, WV, and discharged on April 7, 1954. While serving, he was stationed in England.
Vernon worked as a self-employed owner/ operator truck driver from 1972 until 2013. His first love was his wife of 58 years, then trucks, and providing for his family. He was the owner of Farris Trucking and Farris Fruit & Produce.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris M. Farris, Cumberland; sons, Floyd Farris and wife, Kim, Cresaptown, Brian Farris and partner, Lori, Hagerstown, and Gary Farris and wife, Cindy, Cresaptown; daughter, Diane Fetters and husband, Michael, Cresaptown; grandchildren, Floyd Jr., Ann, Jamie, Anthony, Corey, Tyler, Chad, Angela, Brian, Michael, John John, April, Katelin, and Zachary; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine E. Trumpower, Hagerstown, and Mary Martin and husband, Richard, Hagerstown; brothers, James R. Farris and wife, Evelyn, Hagerstown, and John Hoover and friend, Jackie, Hagerstown.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Thursday, November 5, 2020, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at Broadfording Memorial Gardens, Hagerstown, on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 12 p.m. with Pastor S. Dwight Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Broadfording Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by the Joint Veteran's Council of Washington County and the Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
Pallbearers will be Vernon's grandsons, Michael Fetters, Jamie Farris, Corey Farris, Tyler Farris, Chad Graham, and Zachary Farris.
