On Sunday, December 13, 2020 Vernon Dale Bowman, Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully at Mountain City Center, Frostburg, MD at the age of 86, after his battle to Covid-19. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Amanda (Burkett) Bowman. Brother, Charles Bowman. Sister, Ruth Faidley. Survived by his wife off 44 years, Linda (Ackerman) Bowman. Children: Dale (Janie) Bowman of West Virginia, Heidi (Mel) Burley, and Tawnya (Terry) Miller of Meyersdale. Grandchildren: Dale (Courtney) Bowman III, Kendra (Ricky Leydig) Haines, Kierra Haines, and Jack Miller. Great Grandchildren: Lydia Rugg, Lahna Dice, Zane Snuffer, Rylan Leydig, and one on the way. Vernon served 10 years, 1 month, and 13 days in the United States Air Force along with 32 years for the Meyersdale Police Department. His family would like to give a special thank-you to the staff at Mountain City Center / Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the professional care and dignified compassion he was shown by the entire facility, our hearts know that he could not have been at a better place and a very special thank-you to Larae Duncan (aka George) for all the happiness and love that you bestowed to Vernon, you were definitely his favorite nurse's aide. Officer Bowman, Chief of Police Badge #13 has safely reached the finish line, is cleared, and off duty. Gone but not forgotten, his tour of duty is now complete.
