Verne was born on August 18, 1935, to the late Bernard and Julia (Brisk) Deering at their family farm in Harding, MN. He graduated from Little Falls Community High School in 1953 and then went on to St. Cloud State University before the Cleveland Indians drafted him. He later served in the military, playing baseball for the Army in Europe from 1958 to 1960. Verne married Patricia Ann Dvorak on January 27, 1962. After Pat's passing, Verne later married Audrey Elaine Miller on November 14, 1983. Verne had a deep passion for baseball and farming. He was a left-handed pitcher for various local baseball teams, including a brief stint in the minor leagues, and he coached the Randall Cubs for many years. Verne spent his life dairy farming in central Minnesota, and after retiring from farming, he took a position at Steinbronn Surge. He was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46. Verne loved to travel, especially to the Grand Tetons and the Rocky Mountains. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards, watching his favorite Westerns, taking long Sunday drives with his friend Oscar, and watching the Minnesota Twins play baseball. Verne was a gentle, caring man with a strong faith who always spoke kindly to everyone. He will be deeply missed for his smile and his competitive, fun-loving nature. Verne was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will be greatly missed.
