Mrs. Vermell (Marjorie) Chapman was born on November 19, 1949, in Hopkins, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late John Stevenson and Martha Davis. She answered the heavenly call on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
“Marjorie,” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Lower Richland County, South Carolina where she graduated from Hopkins High in the class of 1968.
Vermell was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, James Edward Chapman in 1968. Their union of love was blessed with 53 years of love and devotion to each other, and the births of two sons.
Mrs. Chapmen was a member of Zion Mill Creek Baptist Church of Columbia, SC; she later joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Hopkins, SC, where she served faithfully.
Vermell touched a multitude of lives in a positive way over her 72 years, including family, friends, neighbors, and anyone that was in need or anyone who was graced by her presence.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her son, Terry Chapman; her brother, John Davis; and her sisters, Laura Mack and Bernice Barber.
Those who will forever cherish her precious memories are her loving and devoted husband, James Chapman, Sr.; her loving son, Bernard Chapman; five (5) stepchildren; nine (9) grandchildren; four (4) great-grandchildren, her caring brothers, Maybank (Ruby) Howell, Lewis Davis, Sam Davis, and Calvin Davis; her loving sisters, Lucille Davis, Sylvialene (Terrance) Brown, Linda Wesson, Debra Davis, and Susie Stevenson; her loving and devoted best friend, Betty Mack; a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces; and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of who will miss her dearly.
