Vendle Ray Lopes, 90, of Lawton passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Saturday,
November 9, 2024. He was born on October 8, 1934 in Newport, Texas to Henry and Eunice (Armstrong)
Lopes. He grew up in Texas for the first few years of his life, moving to Lawton, Oklahoma during
grade school, where he resided until his passing. As a teenager, he assisted his father in the family business, Lopes Tile, and eventually took over, successfully running it until his retirement in 2017.
On February 13, 1955, He married Mary Margaret Miller in Grandfield, Oklahoma, and together they made their home in Lawton, where they raised their five children.
Vendle loved his family deeply and was a hard worker. He enjoyed spending time with his
children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. From large family functions to dinners with
different family members to quiet moments spent watching TV together, he cherished every
second spent with each member of his family. He could often be found watching Texas Rangers
baseball as he was an avid fan. He also enjoyed family cookouts and eating ribeye steak- his
favorite type of steak. He loved to be busy, and never afraid of hard work, he could often be
found outside on his riding lawn mower mowing not only his own lawn but others as well, even
when his health started to fade. He loved tiling and took pride in every job he
completed. He did not like to sit still, and he instilled his work ethic in his children and
grandchildren. Above all, Vendle cherished his faith, expressing it through the gentle and caring way he supported his family and friends. Always ready with a listening ear and kind words of encouragement, he touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children: Denise Hamilton, Diana Jennett-Stalnaker and husband Bobby,
Kay Jennett and husband Ricky, and Kenneth Lopes; his grandchildren: Amanda Rundle, Evan
Hamilton, Jacqueline Bartlett (Taylor), Christopher Jennett (Rachel), Stephanie Lopes, Joshua
Lopes, Tyler Lopes, Collin Lopes (Courtney); his great grandchildren: Gracie, Matthew, Isabella,
Noah, Mackenzie, Miken, Morgan, Declan, Haegan, Mace, Rylan, Kasen, and Crew and many
other family and friends.

applied to many aspects of his life, "If a little's good, a lot's better!"
