Funeral services for Velma Cade, 88, of Tyler, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Luna and Rev. Ed Wandling officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. She will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Chandler Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cade passed away on December 20, 2025, in Tyler.
Velma Zo (Smith) Cade was born on April 2, 1937, in Mount Sylvan, Texas, to Guy Sherman Smith and Mary Ruby (Parker) Smith. A 1955 graduate of Tyler High School, she continued her education at both Tyler Junior College and Tyler Commercial College. Together with her husband, Velma owned and operated Cade Home Appliance for many years. She was a devoted, lifelong member of Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church, where she actively participated in UMW, served as a MYF leader, and was a dedicated member of the cook team. Velma gave her time to any activity involving her children, serving as a leader for Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Camp Fire Girls, and as a lifelong PTA member. She was one of the founding members of the Chandler Pow Wow and was a proud supporter of the Chandler Library and the Chandler Historical Society. Velma found joy in cooking, hunting, fishing, camping with her family, and was an avid reader. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and friendliness?a woman who never met a stranger?and as a devoted mother and Mammaw who cherished her family and always went out of her way to be there for them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Sidney Cade, Sr.; her twin sister, Thelma Jones; and her daughter-in-law, Patty Cade.
Survivors include her children, Lisa Hargrave and husband James "Bo" Hargrave, Charles S. "Chuck" Cade, Jr. and wife Catherine, and William S. "Bill" Cade and Sean De La Cruz; her grandchildren, Sheyenne Hargrave and wife Katharine, Holly Dean and husband Wes, Haily Hargrave, Jessica Chavez and husband Hector, Billy Cade, and Cathy Quick and husband Justin; her great-grandchildren, Vance Fory, Case Quick, Hector "Tito" Chavez, Colson Hargrave, Collins Hargrave, McCray Rainwater, Addilyn Quick, and Charles Coleman Dean; and by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Retreat Methodist Church, 417 CR 1143, Tyler, Texas 75704, the Chandler Historical Society, P.O. Box 63, Chandler, Texas 75758, or to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
