Velia Gonzalez Cavazos, 84, of Harlingen, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 23, 2021. She was born on August 3, 1937 to Basilia and Manuel Gonzalez in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Homero Gonzalez, Rodolfo Gonzalez, Jaime Gonzalez, her sisters Socorro Sanchez, Sylvia Menchaca (Luis), nephew, Robert Menchaca and her son Macario Guajardo, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Maribel Pedraza (Fernando), son, Juan Jose Guajardo (Maria), daughter, Flor Estella Briones (Juan Lumbrera), daughter, Sandra G. Andrade (Victor), daughter, Velia Guajardo, and daughter, Elsa Guajardo (Leroy). Velia had 32 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Maricela Garcia, brothers Manuel Gonzalez, Alfredo Gonzalez, Beto Gonzalez, and Efrain Gonzalez.
Velia was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and friend to those who were in her life. Her vibrant zest for life was what she was known for. She loved dancing, singing, cooking and giving. She would give you the clothes off her back if you needed it. She will be remembered for making the best tasting mole and tamales for the family. Her cooking was made with love and anyone who ever tasted her food would tell. She loved playing bingo at the center and enjoyed the dance parties the center offered. Velia will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. All services will conclude on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 9:00 PM at Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen.
