Travis B. LaDuke went to his eternal home in heaven, Friday morning, February 12, 2021, at the age of 95. He passed peacefully in his sleep with his wife, Helen, by his side at the home of his daughter, Sheryl and husband, Pat Davis.
Services will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 at 2:00, at First Baptist Church in Amarillo with Dr. Howard K Batson presiding. Visitation is from 5-7, on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors; 5400 Bell St in Amarillo. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors.
Travis and Helen Inez Burrow were married at the First Baptist Church of Tulia on June 1, 1947. They celebrated life for 73 years together, raising four children. Travis led his family by sharing with them the joy of laughter, his passion for sports, respect for country, an appreciation for good food, and above all else, love of God.
Travis had a long and fulfilled life. He was a proud American and served his country in World War ll and in the National Guard following the war.
He became a Christian at the age of 21 and received a call from God to enter the field of ministry. He graduated from Hardin Simmons University and Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth.
During his 47 year career, he pastored 14 churches and taught and coached school 3 years. He touched countless lives as he nurtured, guided, and shared the gospel of Christ.
Travis lived every day to the fullest enjoying a variety of hobbies. As a young adult, he liked to boat and fish, hunt quail, raise bird dogs, play golf, and "Cowboy" with his ranching buddies.
In his last 20 years, he became an ardent fan of West Texas University football and basketball. He served as the chaplain for the Buffalo football team 2005-2013, attending two a day practices, booster club meetings, home games, and road trips to the away games. He led the team in devotionals and prayer before each game and was a great influence to the team members.
He traveled to watch both the girl's and boys' basketball teams experience victory at the Lone Star Conference Championships. His last trip being March 2020.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen, daughters, Shelia LaDuke and Sheryl Davis and her husband, Pat of Amarillo. Daughter, Shirley Wagner and her husband, Roll of Cleburne, Texas. Son, Shane LaDuke of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Eight grandchildren: Jeana Wood, Joni Krueger and husband, Dave. Jami Upshaw, Keith-Ann Wagner and husband, Chad, Kara Overby and husband Jacob. Travis McNutt, Lucy and Ruthie LaDuke and their mother, Shannon. James Davis and wife, Jessica. Emily Green and husband, Clint. Thirteen great-grandchildren, three sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Travis was preceded in his death by his parents, three siblings and his granddaughter, Keeton Paige McNutt.
