Tommy Ray Tyler (Tom) passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, with his sister at his side; he was 68 years old. Tom was born in Lubbock, TX, on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1955, to Shirley Hill Tyler and Donald Ray Tyler.
Tom had a love for the outdoors that started when he was young and continued throughout his life. He loved to hunt, hike, be near the water, a good fire, a good dip of Copenhagen, a cold beer and good friends. Tom loved his dogs, and you could often find him at the lake, just hanging out with his dogs.
The first 14 years of Tom's life were spent moving around Texas and Oklahoma, with his family (Lubbock, Ballinger, Dalhart, Dumas, Canyon, and Guyman, Oklahoma). His family settled in Burnet, and Tom graduated from Burnet High School in 1974. After graduation, he moved with his family to the Cedar Park / Round Rock area. In 1989 he purchased his home in Cedar Park, Texas and has lived there ever since.
Tom went to work for Dale Automotive, in Cedar Park, in 1984. That store changed hands several times and became known as the Parts Connection and ultimately A-Line Auto Parts. Each time the store was sold, Tom went with it. Tom enjoyed managing the Store, and throughout the years, he built many good friendships with the employees and customers. He retired in 2020 after 36 years of employment.
Tom is survived by his sister, Kathy Tyler Floyd (Jim) of Gonzales, his two nephews Ross Land and Joshua Floyd, his stepfather, Rodney Krawl, and his sister-in-law, Sam Tyler of Pueblo, Colorado. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and his little brother, Larry Don Tyler.
Kathy would like to thank the many friends who called and came to the Hospital to see Tom. The outpouring of support they provided, and their friendship brought Tom comfort at the hospital. A special thanks to Kevin Giles and Scott Hopkins. Kevin has been Tom's friend since 1974; Scott and Tom worked together. These men were ever present at the Hospital and provided friendship and support until the end.
Tom was a big man, with a big heart. He was the friend you wanted to have. He will be missed by all who were luckily enough to know him.
A graveside service will be held at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Texas on Saturday, October 05, 2024, at 11:00am.
