Tommy Cathey, 80, formerly of Haskell, TX, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021.
Thomas was born September 5, 1940 in Haskell, TX to Buford and Claribelle Cathey. He was born and raised in Haskell and graduated from Haskell High School in 1959, and he received his Master of Education from West Texas College. Tommy married Julie Collins on February 24, 1962, in Haskell, and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage. He was a math teacher for several years before becoming superintendent of several schools in the Texas Panhandle. Teaching was his life, and he loved interacting with the kids. After retirement, he lived with his wife Julie in Amarillo for the past 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Cathey of Amarillo; daughter, Pam Fulton and husband Chris of Lockney; son, Tommy Cathey, Jr., and wife Dala of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Laura and husband Josh Kinzer, Collin Fulton, Alex Cathey, Caroline Cathey, and Trip Cathey; great-grandson, Henry Kinzer; and aunt, Jean Buford of Weatherford. He felt his greatest accomplishment were his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Claribelle Cathey; sister, Judy Cathey; and nephew, Jeff Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Willow Cemetery Building fund, Haskell National Bank, 601 North First Street, Haskell, TX, 79521, account number 190993.
A memorial service will be held June 23, 2021, at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, located at 3001 South Bell Street, Amarillo, TX, at 11:00 AM.
A graveside service will be held at Willow Cemetery in Haskell, TX on October 16, 2021 at 10:00 AM.
