Tommie Wayne Floyd II went home to be with his heavenly father on October 4, 2021. Tommie was born on January 21, 1947 to Tommie and Anne Floyd in Sweetwater, Texas, where he resided until he joined the United States Army in 1966. After leaving the army in 1968, Tommie made his home in Midland, Texas.
Prior to moving to Midland, Tommie was the first African American to be employed at Lone Star Cement as an engineer. He also worked as a mailman for the United States Postal Services. Tommie's hobbies included playing chess, shooting pool, and he loved fishing.
Tommie is survived by his five children. Anthony Crawford of Midland; Clay (Amy) Floyd of Dallas; Gwendolyn (Terry) McGhee of Abilene; Tommie (Stacey) Floyd of Roscoe; Crystal (Patrick) Goodman of Navasota; and Tonia of Dallas. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.
Tommie was preceded in death by his parents.
A military graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Robert Carey officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Honors will be performed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
