Tom Buchanan, 59, of Carrollton, Kentucky passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 in Dayton, Ohio
Born November 2, 1961 in Scottsburg, IN, he was the son of the late Jim and Margaret Jane (Nalley) Buchanan.
Tom was an Austin Police Commissioner, a member of Knights of Columbus, and he was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council. He worked for many years as the manager of the Austin High School Dollars for Scholars and Carroll County High School Food Pantry. Tom loved the outdoors, hunting, and playing with the horses and goats. Tom worked in various kinds of jobs throughout his life, but he finally found his true calling as a special education teacher. He loved his "kids" and they loved him. Tom loved people and especially socializing.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 26 years, Misty Clemons Buchanan, a daughter, Cassidy Jane Buchanan of Carrollton, Kentucky, and siblings, Janie Alexander, J.D. (Terri) Buchanan, and Jerry Buchanan all of Austin, Indiana. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Allison, Michael, Daniel, Cameron, and Rylie.
Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Scottsburg, Indiana with Father Don Buchanan officiating.
Visitation will be 3 to 8 pm Tuesday and 10 to 12 noon Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin, Indiana.
Burial will be at Austin Cemetery in Austin, Indiana.
Memorials can be made to American Diabetes Association and a scholarship for a Carroll County High School Student.
Face coverings will be required during visitation and funeral.
