Thomas (Tom) Brown of Dallas, Texas, known lovingly to his family and friends as "Poppy" and "Amma Tom", went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Tom was born on January 21, 1931 to James and Marguerite Brown of Hughestown, PA. Tom was a long-time employee of Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania retiring in 1990. He was an accomplished baseball player and coach and was very active in amateur sports in the Greater Pittston Pennsylvania area.
Tom enjoyed golfing, especially with his sons and grandsons, and doing crossword puzzles. One of his favorite past times was sitting outdoors, no matter the weather, greeting all the dog walkers and their 'doggies'. He could be found sitting outside most days drinking his coffee, reading the New York Times and Dallas papers while handing out dog treats.
Tom was also generous with his time, volunteering at Baylor University for many years. As a one-time heart bypass patient, Tom mentored patience to help ease their apprehensions.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Barrett of Pittston, his son Danny of Pittston, and his son Jimmy of Pittsburgh. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Adele of Dallas, TX, his daughter Mary of Allentown, PA, his son Tom Jr. of Baltimore, MD, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his friendly and outgoing nature and generous spirit.
A Funeral Urn Mass will be held at St Rita's Church on June 25, at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to a charitable organization of your choice.
