Todd Eric Stephens, age 53, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in Baton Rouge, LA, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to know him. Born August 16, 1968 to his loving parents, Jim and Becky Stephens. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Anthony Stephens and wife, Karen; his two nephews, Ryan Stephens, and Patrick Stephens and niece, Kelly Stephens; aunts and uncles, Pat & Raymond Cooley of DeQuincy, LA, and Glynn & Jean Stephens of Morgan City, LA and a multitude of other family and friends; preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. George Henagan of DeQuincy, LA and Mr. & Mrs. Ottis Stephens of Baton Rouge, LA. Todd graduated from Trafton High School in 1986 and studied at Louisiana Tech University and Louisiana State University. He made his home in Dallas, TX in 1989 where he worked for the Texas Toll Authority and in other technical management positions until addiction stole his ability to enjoy what could have been a promising and thriving career. Todd started using alcohol in high school as a coping mechanism for anxiety and depression which led to addiction that he fought until he was rescued by the Grace of God through the support services of the Dallas 24 Hour Club. That unique support provides transitional living and life skills for hundreds of alcoholics and addicts so they can embrace long term sobriety and become contributing members of the community. Caring volunteers shared with Todd that from their own experiences, he could never stop using alcohol on his own; but as they proved by their own changed lives, God could. Todd maintained his sobriety by perpetuating the pattern of passing on to others his experience and hope. He touched many lives with his kind heart, beautiful spirit and compassion for those still struggling as he had. Todd loved his family and was deeply thankful for their love and support through his journey with addiction and cancer. He will be greatly missed and remembered most for his kind, giving heart, humor, and love of all sports. We who knew Todd best will smile often recalling his greatest passions-Jesus Christ and LSU. Hopefully Todd's story of redemption will bring badly needed awareness and support so our Baton Rouge sons and daughters struggling with addiction and mental illness can find lifesaving hope and healing. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Todd's life on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Jefferson Baptist Church, 9135 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA, visitation beginning 10:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The 24 Hour Club, 4636 Ross Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75204; 214-823-3200, [email protected]. Special thanks to the many faithful family and friends for your prayers, cards, and calls of support and encouragement throughout this difficult journey.
