SHUSTER, Todd Humble and Kind On Friday, June 3, 2022, Todd David Shuster, loving husband, father, brother, son, and friend, passed away at the age of 59, in the most bitter of ironies, of colon cancer, a disease he had spent his career trying to understand. Todd was born on July 14, 1962 in Albany, New York to Robert and Myrna Shuster. Todd met his wife Elyse while they were both in graduate school at the University of Rochester. They were set up by their grandparents, who were old friends in Brooklyn, NY. Neither Todd or Elyse imagined that their first blind date would turn into a lifelong romance and partnership, but it did, and they were married on October 13, 1991. They raised 3 daughters, Sarah, Abigail, and Anna in Belmont, Massachusetts. His family was everything to him, and he was never happier than when he was surrounded by all his "girls." Todd received his Bachelor's Degree from Haverford College, and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Rochester. He trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and did his Hematology and Oncology fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, where he became an attending physician and the co-director of the Lung Cancer Clinic for a few years before joining the Oncology Department at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA, in 1997, where he served in several positions including co-director of Thoracic Oncology and Chair of Medical Oncology Department. In 2009, Todd decided to shift his focus from clinical practice to focus on working in the Clinical Trial sector, joining Parexel International, first as a Medical Director in Hematology/Oncology, and moving on to become a senior Medical Director and a senior Vice President and Global Therapeutic area head in Breast/Gyn Cancers, Gastrointestinal Cancers, and Lung/Head & Neck cancers. He worked at Parexel until January of this year, when his illness prevented him from continuing in this role. Todd was a compassionate and brilliant Oncologist, who cared deeply for his patients. He was also always there to offer medical guidance and advice to family and friends when they needed help navigating their diagnoses. He was somehow always able to help explain what felt complicated and overwhelming in a way that was easy for a layperson to understand. He mentored many young physicians during his years as a clinician, and he brought that same kindness and patient-centered approach to Parexel and his clinical research career, where he always led with his heart. Todd loved his friends and spent countless hours playing tennis and softball, riding bikes, watching sports, and talking with them. He was so dedicated to Beth El Temple Center, where he served as Brotherhood President, and Temple President with grace, humility, kindness, and great intelligence. Todd was preceded in death by his father Robert and his mother Myrna. He is survived by his wife Elyse; his 3 daughters; his sister Lauren Kazlow; his mother-in-law Roberta Small; and multiple nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers in-law. A private Burial Service will be held in Great Barrington, Massachusetts on Monday. A Memorial Service will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Beth El Temple, 2 Concord Ave., Belmont, MA.
