Timothy Taber Louis, 82, a resident of Portsmouth, NH, and a former long-time resident of Raymond, NH, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024 at The Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, NH.
Tim was born on July 17, 1942, the son of Robert and Gertrude, in Cleveland, OH. He grew up in East Cleveland, OH and eventually moved to Fremont, NH, where his family spent many summers during his childhood. Upon high school graduation in 1960, Tim enrolled at the University of New Hampshire, but ultimately left college to enlist in the United States Air Force. Tim served four years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant while deployed as a communications specialist at Fuchu Air Station in Japan and Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
Upon his honorable discharge, Tim returned to NH and began working at the Ashworth-by-the-Sea Hotel in Hampton Beach, NH. He started out as a front desk agent, quickly moved into a supervisor role, and ultimately, the Assistant General Manager. Tim would go on to work nearly 40 years at the Ashworth, where he met Margaret "Peg" Evans. After marrying in 1971, they lived in Hampton Beach before purchasing their home, The Bean Tavern, in Raymond, NH, where they moved in 1980. Tim resided in Raymond for 40 years, raised his three children there, and became very active in the local community.
Tim's civic involvement in the Town of Raymond was quite extensive and varied - he was constantly looking to make it a better place to live and conduct business. After purchasing the oldest house in town, he got involved with the Historical Society and served as President for 2 years. As his children approached school age, he ran for the School Board, serving for a total of 6 years. He was a charter member of the Raymond Area Rotary Club and served a term as President. He served on the Budget Committee and the Historic Development Commission, was the School District Moderator for many years, and was involved with Raymond's 225th and 250th Anniversary celebrations.
Tim and his wife, Peg, loved Raymond and dedicated a significant amount of time giving back to their community. For many years, he organized food donations and served a hot Christmas meal for those that were alone or needed assistance. He was also involved in Hometown Friends, which coordinated community donations to assist community members facing various hardships.
He will be missed by his loving family: son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Lauren Louis of Chapel Hill, NC, son, Matthew Louis of Portsmouth, NH, daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Chris Casimiro of Cumberland, RI. He also had four grandchildren, Brooke, Julia, Jackson and Lorelai, that he loved playing tricks on and they will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, Tim was predeceased by his loving wife, Peg, and his three brothers, Richard, Dean, and John.
