Timothy Roy Hall, age 80, passed away peacefully in his home in San Angelo, Texas, on June 27, 2021, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Tim was born on September 24, 1940, in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Irene and Harold Hall. He attended school in Stroud, Oklahoma, graduating as Salutatorian in 1958. As a young boy, he and his brother Bill shined shoes on Route 66, a skill he proudly maintained for the rest of his life. In 1962, he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Mathematics. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, completing an Aviation Officer Candidate Program in Pensacola, Florida. He was honorably discharged in 1963. His teaching career began at Sunray Junior High School in Sunray, Texas. After earning his Master's Degree in Mathematics from West Texas State University in 1968, Tim accepted a teaching position at Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas, eventually becoming head of the Math Department. For the next 30 years, Tim made the central Texas countryside his home, marrying Linda Payne of Lampasas, Texas, and raising three children. Upon his retirement in 1999, CTC awarded him the title of Professor Emeritus in honor of his 30 years of dedicated service. Tim moved to San Angelo, Texas, in 2000, beginning a long period of volunteer service with his church and community. At the First United Methodist Church of San Angelo, he was a founding member of the handyman group known as "The Do-Dads." On Sunday mornings Tim donned an apron, serving up cookies, coffee, and juice with a heavy dose of his cheerful and welcoming disposition. This earned him the affectionate title of "Cookie Monster." He loved his community and was proud to volunteer at the San Angelo Visitor's Center, engaging travelers with his genuine interest, wonderful storytelling, and jokes. In 2018 he was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce for many hours of dedication to the city of San Angelo. Tim was also featured in the San Angelo Standard Times for maintaining a weekly recycle route, picking up recyclables from local businesses and delivering them to recycling centers in San Angelo. He served on various boards and committees for local organizations including FUMC San Angelo and West Texas Guidance and Counseling.
He is fondly remembered for his gifted storytelling, his creative and masterful use of the English language, and his sense of humor. His favorite sayings were oft repeated: "Many hands make light work, Do it right the first time, Measure twice cut once," and "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." He enjoyed woodworking, early morning coffee, and following the stock market. He was a life-long OU Boomer Sooner, although a graduate of OSU. His precise calculations, detailed planning, and to-the-penny checkbook reconciliations benefited him well in life. His good-natured children, who did not inherit these traits, have had many good laughs about their differences.
Eternally pragmatic and faced with the return of his cancer, Tim poetically stated, "This is part of the Script which was written for me, and I am at peace with the story."
Tim was preceded in death by his parents Irene and Harold Hall. He is survived by brother Bill Hall and wife Estella of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, daughter Sarah Hall of New Braunfels, Tx; daughter Emily Hall Sides and husband Jesse of Abilene, Tx; and son, Winston Hall and wife Donna of Shreveport, Louisiana. His three grandchildren, Witten, Arri, and Josie, will greatly miss their PaPa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to our dear friends and his wonderful community for their love and care during this difficult time. We are especially grateful for his caring neighbor Sue, and nurses Aracelie, Becca, and Miranda of Hospice of San Angelo, who provided invaluable assistance and compassion throughout his final chapter.
