Thomas Wilson Tyl, 55, of 1455 Arthur Teague Road, Siler City died Monday, July 11, 2011 at his residence. Tom, born April 24, 1956 in Montpelier, Vermont; the son of Leonard and Cecile (Sequin) Tyl and was an internationally known metallurgist and manufacturing consulting engineer who traveled the world. He held degrees from North Carolina State University, Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh. Tom was very involved in the community and lived a full and adventurous life. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years: Rochelle "Shelley" (Wolkowski) Tyl, one daughter: Jennifer Wolkowski of Raleigh, NC and one son: Jeffrey Tyl and wife, Lesley of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Braydon William and Holt Thomas Tyl; his parents; one brother; three sisters and his beloved dog " Max". A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Siler City, N.C. - Thomas W. Tyl, 55, formerly of Montville, passed away at his home in Siler City, N.C. on Monday, July 11, 2011, following minor knee surgery. He is the son of Leonard and Cecile Tyl of Uncasville. Tom was a graduate of Montville High School. After transferring from UCONN, he received an engineering degree from the University of North Carolina, a master's degree in metallurgy from Carnegie Melon University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburg. He worked for several years for the Goodyear Tire Company before branching out to work as a consultant and starting two businesses, Tire Wire Technology LLC, and Jigsaw Thermal Technology LLC. He traveled throughout the world consulting and promoting his two companies. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shelley; a son Jeffrey and wife, Leslie, of Charlotte, N.C.; and stepdaughter, Jenifer Wilkosky, of Raleigh, N.C.; grandsons, Holt and Brayden Tyl of Charlotte, N.C.; and sisters, Dr. Rosemary Tyl and Dr. Timothy Canty, of Sacramento, Calif., Carolyn Tyl and husband, Frederick Szczesiul, of Lisbon, and Catherine and husband, John Hacklin, of Voluntown; and brother, Daniel Tyl and wife, Robin, of Brooklyn. A memorial service will be held in Siler City, N.C. at a date to be established.
