Thomas Hugh Walton, "Tommy", of Anderson, SC went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 24, 2022. He was born in Durham, NC, on May 23, 1948 and was the son of the late Arthur Linwood Walton and Ethel Ruth Bryant Walton.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Frances Weeks Walton, who passed away from Covid 19 on January 2, 2021. There will be a joint memorial service celebrating both their lives and their marriage on Saturday, July 9, 2022 and 2pm at the Hampstead branch of Andrews Mortuary and Crematory, Hampstead, NC. Visitation to follow.
He is survived by his sister Loretta Moore, his children, Kimberly Walton Joyce (Jeff), Thomas Matthew Walton (Heather) and step-children, Michael Curtis Compton, Janice Charlene Dickey, and Virginia Carol Santacruz. His grandchildren include: Christina Diane Ramirez (Brandon), Rebecca Lynn Baker (Marshall), Francisco Alexander Santacruz (predeceased), McKinley Walton Gobble, Riley Thomas Gobble, Timothy Knox Walton and Karis Joy Walton. His great grandchildren include Ava Charlene and Joseph Ethan Ramirez, Hallie Frances and Elijah Garrett Compton, Frances Bailey and Michael Atticus McGowen, and Virginia Elaine Baker.
Tommy graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington as Senior Class President. He went on to work in various management roles with Sears and Roebuck, Circuit City, Montgomery Wards, and Compass Food Group. He was an active member of Whitefield Baptist Church in Anderson, SC and a volunteer, counselor and board member for The Haven of Rest.
Tommy loved the Lord Jesus Christ, the North Carolina Tarheels, and the Atlanta Braves. He loved life but found its greatest joy in sharing it with others, especially his family. He was a rock that many leaned on for strength, guidance and wisdom. He had a way of making you feel better about yourself, your abilities, and the direction of your life when you left his presence. He was a giver of his time, energy and resources; mostly behind the scenes. He always had a song on his lips, a smile on his face, and a story to tell....two, three or even four times. He will truly be missed as a servant-leader, a Dad and a Papa.
The family wishes to thank Tommy and Frances' many care workers over the past few years including Virginia Santacruz, Kimberly Joyce, the agencies, the individual workers, and the facilities that cared so well for both of them.
