Thomas who Served His Country
Thomas VanBuskirk was born to Samuel and Catherine VanBuskirk on 17 October 1841 in Tuscarawas, Ohio.
When the Civil War started Thomas joined the conflict with the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Company I on 21 August 1861 being 20 years old at the time. Thomas participated while serving in the 49th Ohio the Battle of Shiloh, Seige of Corinth, and the Battle of Stones River. It was at the Battle of Stones River that Thomas was mortally wounded on 31 December 1862 and died on 6 January 1863.
He was buried at the Cemetary in Murfreesburo, Rutherford, Tennessee.
He never married.
